NOBODY DOES IT BAUER

Jack
During an interview with Deadline.com to mark their 25 years together as two of Hollywood’s most prolific producing partners, Ron Howard and Brian Grazer were asked to recall their first memories of various television series – which include Friday Night Lights, Arrested Development and 24 – and films – which include Apollo 13, A Beautiful Mind and 8 Mile – their company, Imagine Entertainment, has produced. When asked what he remembers most about 24, Grazer said: “Kiefer Sutherland and how not only did he play Jack Bauer more successfully than anyone else could have, but proved himself to be a surprisingly talented television producer who took charge and demonstrated taste and discipline. And we’re working on that 24 feature.” He did not mention the other hotly anticipated TV-to-film adaptation, Arrested Development. For your own memories of 24, check out screen-worn wardrobe items (including a bunch of things worn by Kiefer Sutherland) and props from the series at VIP Fan Auctions.

MAN OF STEEL MEETS LAW & ORDER

ZOD
When news broke that former Law & Order: Special Victims Unit star Christopher Meloni would be joining the cast of the next Superman film, rumors quickly swirled that the actor would play the Man of Steel’s arch nemesis, Lex Luthor, but NYmag.com’s Vulture column reports the rumor is full of Kryptonite. Instead, the actor will play a general (Zod, perhaps? The film’s director, Zack Snyder, denied it.) When asked for more details, Meloni told the website, “I can’t tell you, or I’d have to kill you.” Filming will reportedly begin in August.

PRINCE'S 'KISS'-OFF TO GLEE

Prince
Add Prince to the list of musical artists who are not happy with Glee covering his tunes. The artist formerly known as “the artist formerly known as Prince” (I wish I remembered which comedian to credit that joke) reportedly told The Guardian (U.K.) newspaper that he doesn’t like the idea of singers singing other singers’ songs. “There’s no other art form where you can do that,” Prince told the newspaper, specifically referring to Glee’s cover of his 1986 hit single “Kiss” (which was also covered by Tom Jones. “You can’t go and do your own version of Harry Potter. Do you want to hear somebody else sing ‘Kiss’?” Which version do you like better?

GO! FIGHT! WIN! PANTHERS!

Cheer

You’d have to be a pretty spirited Friday Night Lights fan to cheer alongside the Dillon Panthers pep squad in your living room, but owning a set of the cheerleaders’ screen-worn warm-ups will definitely get you in the right frame of mind for football season. As fans of the series know, the Dillon cheerleaders are as competitive as the football team – check out the Season one episode “It’s Different for Girls” to see the team in action at the Championship Classic – and then visit VIP Fan Auctions to place your bid on a pair of Dillon cheerleader warm-ups. THE GIRL WITH THE HELIX TATTOO

Ali

The artwork of Isaac Mendez (character played by Santiago Cabrera, paintings created by award-winning artist Tim Sale) was powerful stuff – not only was it visually stunning, it also offered a glimpse into the future.  Of course, Niki Sanders (played by Ali Larter) was pretty powerful herself – as in superhuman strength –which is a dangerous proposition for anyone with a devious split personality running around inside her brain. For one Heroes fan, however, these characters converge in the painting above, which was used on screen and features Niki/Jessica with the helix symbol tattoo on her shoulder. It is being auctioned to the highest bigger at VIP Fan Auctions. Check out the details of this original piece of Heroes artwork (as well as other Heroes props and wardrobe items) today!

'SUPER 8' IS A HIT!

JJ Abrams and Steven Spielberg’s alien thriller, Super 8, finished the week #2 at the box office. The film, which stars Kyle Chandler, fell from the #1 spot it held last week. Green Lantern, starring Ryan Reynolds and Blake Lively, debuted at the top this week and pulled in over 53 million. In just two weeks, Paramount’s Super 8 has earned rave reviews in grossing just over 73 million. At number 3 this week was another debut, Mr. Popper’s Penguins, starring Jim Carrey. It was followed by X-Men: First Class and The Hangover Part II, the top grossing film in the US this year at 233 million.

FRIDAY NIGHT LIGHTS: REALITY TV

Vince
Praising the writing, acting and drama of Friday Night Lights, Milwaukee sports columnist Dave Begel recently wrote about the realism of the series, noting how recent plot points mirror the actual problems that seem to be rampant in college sports – particularly at Ohio State these days. “Friday Night Lights is great fiction, except it’s not fiction,” Begel wrote for onMilwaukee.com. “Substitute the name Tyrelle Pryor for Vince Howard and you have a biting reality of lust, exploitation and flaunting the NCAA rules.” If you’re a fan of college football – and great television – this column is worth a read. Of course, if you’re looking for a real piece of Friday Night Lights, check out the show’s wardrobe and prop auctions at VIP Fan Auctions.
