The cast of Stargate Universe was talented, diverse and, now that the series has ended, scattered across the entertainment universe working on new projects. This last fact makes it particularly difficult for autograph seekers to capture the SGU cast’s signatures, but for one fortunate Stargate Universe fan, VIP Fan Auctions has unearthed a SGU poster (pictured above) that features nine autographs – all hand-signed, none of that pre-printed space junk – of Jamil Walker Smith (who also wrote “I Heart Julie Benson” to make it a truly one-of-a-kind collectible), Ming-Na, Robert Carlyle, Elyse Levesque, Lou Diamond Phillips, Alaina Huffman, Brian J. Smith, David Blue and Louis Ferreira. It’s a truly outstanding piece of Stargate memorabilia that any fan will treasure for a lifetime. The winner of this auction will own a piece of true sci-fi history suitable for framing. Check out the details – as well as a number of unique screen-used props and wardrobe items – including a really cool pair of space gloves from the series – at VIP’s Stargate Auctions page. Eureka creator Jaime Paglia tells the VIP Fan Blog that assembling the cast of Eureka – especially the lead characters – may have been his greatest challenge during the series’ five seasons. One character he had no trouble casting, however, was Sheriff Jack Carter.
“Colin Ferguson came in on day two of casting – I saw him and knew he was the guy,” Paglia says. “No one else had Colin’s balance of drama and comedy skills. Plus he looked like Steve McQueen. He was the whole package.”
(For an opportunity to own the screen-used badge Ferguson wore as Sheriff Carter, click here and read more below.)
“If you don’t have the right actors, you don’t have a show,” Paglia adds. “We found the perfect people for every role and they have been a joy to work with. They owned their characters.”
Of course, saying goodbye to a character is no picnic either.
“Deciding to kill a character is a huge decision,” says Paglia. “Losing Nathan Stark in Season Three was big, but it seemed like the right time to shake things up and let the audience see that there are real stakes in this show. The time-line shift in Season Four was another big leap of faith, but we were so excited by the impact it would have on the characters and stories it would allow us to tell, we had to do it. And it was great that the audience responded so positively.”
Sheriff Carter’s screen-worn badge is now on the auction block at VIP Fan Auctions. The winning bidder will also receive the sheriff’s “J. Carter” name tag, a mirror image name tag, a pair of Town of Eureka Sheriff patches and a Eureka Sheriff notepad – all used during multiple episodes of the series. There has been an arsenal of really cool screen-used prop weapons featured in movies and television series during recent months at VIP Fan Auctions, but the newly listed boomerang from The Last Airbender may be the most distinct to date! Brandished by young Water Tribe warrior Sokka (played by Jackson Rathbone) in the film, the boomerang is the character’s trademark weapon. The boomerang is 21 inches long, features ornate markings and will only come back to the highest bidder. Click here for photos and to place your bid on this genuine piece of film history.
