During the remarkable five-year run of Eureka, series creator Jaime Paglia says his most memorable moment from the show came far away from the set – and surrounded by fans. It was his first tip to Comic-Con International.
“Our first trip to San Diego was mind-blowing,” he recalls. “We were all shuttled through the service entrance with a phalanx of security guards around us and brought into this dark ballroom filled with thousands of screaming fans. When we stepped on stage for the Eureka panel, we were completely stunned. It was the first time we really got to see how people felt about the show. And sci-fi fans are the best. They’re so loyal and passionate. There’s nothing like that energy. It has been an amazing ride.”
With Comic-Con fast approaching (July 12-15 in San Diego), fans of the series still have an opportunity to claim some genuine Eureka props and costumes – directly from the set. VIP Fan Auctions currently has a watch worn by Colin Ferguson as Sheriff Carter (along with name tags and other personal effects) among a number of screen-worn wardrobe items. With Eureka coming to an end, Paglia says fans of the series will always hold a special place.
“Making this show has been the hardest and most gratifying experience since I became a writer,” he says. “The fans made it possible – so thank you for keeping me employed for the past seven years. It’s been an honor. And I can’t wait to create the next one for you.”
