Ben-Hur starts filming in Rome

MGM’s Ben-Hur starts shooting at Rome’s storied Cinecittà Studios. Cameras are rolling on the epic film from MGM pictures at the Cinecittà Studios massive 100 acre facility. Prior to hitting Rome, early production went down in southern Italy’s historic Matera with director Timur Bekmambetov.

They will be reconstructing Jerusalem on Cinecittà stages and their world’s theme park back lot for a four-month shoot. Other popular productions that have been filmed there are Gangs of New York, Casanova, Cleopatra, The Passion of the Christ and BBC and HBO’s Rome. The film will be released on February 26, 2016.
