Law & Order
BATTER UP, CUTTER!

As an attorney on Law & Order and L&O: Special Victims Unit, Mike Cutter (played by Linus Roache) has been known to bend the rules in the pursuit of justice. And while his official reprimand for practicing law without technically having completed his bachelor’s degree may keep him out of the D.A. hall of fame fact, that isn’t going to keep fans away from placing a bid on the character’s baseball glove and unique collection of baseballs. Featured on-screen in multiple episodes, these props – including an NYPD baseball and cricket ball (both pictured on Cutter’s desk above) – as well as the character’s official Rawlings major league baseball and baseball with a map of New York City (plus the glove) – are now available at VIP Fan Auctions. MAN OF STEEL MEETS LAW & ORDER

When news broke that former Law & Order: Special Victims Unit star Christopher Meloni would be joining the cast of the next Superman film, rumors quickly swirled that the actor would play the Man of Steel’s arch nemesis, Lex Luthor, but NYmag.com’s Vulture column reports the rumor is full of Kryptonite. Instead, the actor will play a general (Zod, perhaps? The film’s director, Zack Snyder, denied it.) When asked for more details, Meloni told the website, “I can’t tell you, or I’d have to kill you.” Filming will reportedly begin in August.
LAW & ORDER: SVU ON ICE

WIth CHris Meloni leaving the series and Mariska Hargitay scaling back her role, fans of Law & Order: SVU are bracing for a lot of new faces next year. One familiar mug that will be returning, however, is Ice-T as Fin Tutuola, according to The Hollywood Reporter. The rapper-actor-reality star announced June 10 via Twitter that he inked a two-year deal through what would be the series’ 14th season: “I’ve just locked in my new SVU deal.. So I’ll officially be back for the next 2 years at least. DONE.”
LAW & ORDER TO FACE THE JURY

Actress Rosie Perez (White Men Can’t Jump) has filed a lawsuit against the producers of Law & Order: SVU seeking damages related to a herniated disc she claims to have received while filming the 2009 episode “Hardwired.” The lawsuit reportedly claims that an extra “recklessly pulled, grabbed, yanked, wrenched and/or manhandled” the actress while filming a scene in which she was reaching into a car and attacking its driver. The injury allegedly occurred when an actor playing a crossing guard steps in to stop the assault. “The thing to do was taking someone who knows what he’s doing to make it look violent without being violent,” lawyer Brian O’Dwyer said to the New York Daily News. “This person was not a stunt man, he was just an extra.” O’Dwyer further stated that Perez has required two surgeries, remains in pain and has missed substantial work because of the injury.
LOVE & ORDER?

After a dozen season on Law & Order: SVU, Mariska Hargitay has asked to see her role scaled back next season, and Jennifer Love Hewitt (Ghost Whisperer) is reportedly the leading candidate to fill her shoes, according to TV Line.com. The website reports that “Around midseason, Hargitay’s Olivia Benson will pass the baton on to a new female detective.” Hargitay’s on-screen partner, Christopher Meloni, has not yet signed a contract to return next season.
LAW & ORDER LEADS TO REAL ARREST

Law & Order is famous for storylines inspired by actual headlines, but this time it’s the series itself that is leading to real arrests. Police in Paterson, N.J., were reportedly alerted to the location of armed burglars who mistakenly broke into the wrong home looking for drugs and, after nearly shooting a child and holding another at gunpoint, stole a cell phone. According to NBC New York, when police approached a suspect, they dialed the phone number and were immediately alerted to its recognizable ringtone – the unmistakable theme from – you guessed it – Law & Order. The man was charged was charged with robbery, two counts of possession of a weapon for an unlawful purpose and four counts of aggravated assault. Police are still searching for his accomplice.
