An awe-inspiring piece of filmmaking from Edgar Wright that plays out as a musical through the lens of an action thriller. Sweet, funny and utterly original — you won’t see a film like it this year. Read Full Review – Terri White of Empire

Will resonate most with audiences that skew young, hip, and, like its helmer and its hero (the latter played by baby-faced “The Fault in Our Stars” star Ansel Elgort), more than a little obsessive. Read Full ReviewPeter Debruge of Variety

This is the first thriller I’ve seen in a long time that feels handmade. Read Full Review – David Edelstein of Vulture

Ben-Hur’s Historical Chariot Race

Although Ben Hur is seen as a remake of a remake, director Timur Bekmambetov says his version goes back to the source – Lew Wallace’s 1880 novel. The 2016 version is more historically accurate than its predecessors and challenged the remakes with an epic chariot race.

“We were trying to reconstruct how it was in Jerusalem’s Circus Maximus [chariot-racing stadium] 2,000 years ago,” says the 55-year-old Russian. His inspiration: Formula 1 races and YouTube clips.

Bekmambetov wanted to create a different energy for his take on the tale. “With Formula 1 cars you have a camera inside the car, it’s vibrating, and that shaky footage makes you feel like you’re actually inside it.”

He wanted to capture every moment on screen to catch every spontaneous moment, a sense of events being just about caught on camera. “Mistakes make a shot look real,” he says.

The “mistakes,” of course, were precisely planned and executed – the set, which was built just outside of Rome, was 300 meters long, and a chariot race that took 45 days to film.

The crew used CGI as minimal as possible, mostly the shots that would have put the animals in danger. Still, the sequence involved 32 horses galloping around together simultaneously, so nothing could be left to chance.

“There was no room for improvisation,” he says. “In the original 1925 film there was an accident and some horses, and a person, died.  We tried to avoid that!”

Here’s how they created that different spontaneous energy.

  • Horse – mounted cameras – To give the scene more energy they attached GoPros to the horses’ heads.
  • Drone Filming – Before launching UAV cameras on set, the horses were trained to become used to the constant buzzing.
  • The chariots – He wanted to make the more realistic, which made it more dangerous, there were no railings – you were really exposed.

Magnificent Seven’s Star Lee Byung-Hun

LeeByung-HunMagnificent Seven star Lee Byung-Hun may not be a household name in the U.S., but he’s one of South Korea’s top actors. He was recently honored with a Star Asia Award at the 15th annual Asian Film Festival at Lincoln Center Tuesday night.

Lee has had a long career to date; he made his debut 25 years ago. Recently he has gained recognition from his most recent role in Inside Men, a slick political thriller underscoring the country’s corruption through the alliance of media, politics and large corporations. He played the role of An Sang-hu, a thug attempting to get revenge on an influential columnist, it was considered his best performance ever and a character that outshone the rest of the cast.

“When I first read the screenplay, I thought An Sang-gu was portrayed as a stereotypical thug, very rough and simplistic… and because [the film] was such a tightly plotted screenplay, I felt there wasn’t a lot of room for the audience to breathe…”  Lee said during his sit-down interview with FORBES ASIA. “So I wanted to add more color to [An Sang-gu] and inject more humor into his character.”

In February Lee became the first Korean to present an award at the Oscars ceremony in Los Angeles; he did it with widely known actress Sophia Vergara. “Although I was there as a presenter, it still felt like a dream come true,” he said.

He is enjoying his rise in popularity with an upcoming role in the highly anticipated remake The Magnificent Seven, in which he stars as the assassin Billy Rock, alongside Hollywood Heavyweights Denzel Washington and Ethan Hawke. He hopes that the film can be his breakout film in Hollywood and show the world his impressive talent that he showed in the Inside Men. The film comes out September 23.

Automatic carbon-infused pistols. Tempered O-shield armor with self-healing functionality. Audio targeting and 360 infrasonic cameras. Microscopic solar O-cells. All of these features and more make Omnicorp’s EM-208 a miracle of modern engineering, designed to restore order and leave criminals quaking in their boots. Sure, sometimes a glitch with sort of firepower can be… problematic… but that isn’t stopping VIP Fan Auctions from making key components of an EM-208 featured on-screen in Robocop available to the fan who places the winning bid! The screen-used EM-208 head, legs and torso offers an up-close look at the detail the visual effects masterminds painstakingly created to bring these cyborgs to life. Mark Wahlberg Amanda Seyfried Ted 2 Movie Spoilers

ted@(Source &

Ted 2 will have Transformers 4 star Mark Wahlberg back to reprise his role slated for release on June 26, 2015. Although, Jupiter Ascending star Mila Kunis will not be returning, there was no bad blood in the decision to change the lineup, Deadline reports that instead it was “a creative decision that MacFarlane decided to take with the plotting of the sequel.”

Amanda Seyfried will be joining the cast and reveals possible spoilers about her role in the movie. She also revealed that she enjoyed working with MacFarlane on the set of A Million Ways to Die in the West and that she would be singing in the movie. She doesn’t believe she’s the most confident singer, but MacFarlane believes in her, so he wrote her a song to sing in the film in which she describes as going to be very interesting. She doesn’t have many details at all on her characters role and admits that she signed on blindly because she trust him and knows she will enjoy making the film. The sequel will start filming in two months.

If those evil geniuses at Omnicorp can build an army of EM-208 androids and make them available to anyone in future Detroit, there’s no reason why you shouldn’t be able to stalk a mile in a cyborg’s shoes. In fact, VIP Fan Auctions is making it easy for the Robocop fan who places the winning bid on an EM-208 suit used for visual effects shots in the 2014 film. The suit includes a data-capture suit used for creating visual effects, a beacon bracelet with the Omnicorp logo, a wearable EM-208 helmet, check and back plates, two shoulder pieces, two forearm pieces, two thigh pieces, gloves and foot pieces. Click here to see photos of the EM-208 components and for more information. It may not give you the firepower of the weaponized cyborgs, but you’ll definitely turn some heads when you mow the lawn in your EM-208 gear.
