After a dozen season on Law & Order: SVU, Mariska Hargitay has asked to see her role scaled back next season, and Jennifer Love Hewitt (Ghost Whisperer) is reportedly the leading candidate to fill her shoes, according to TV Line.com. The website reports that “Around midseason, Hargitay’s Olivia Benson will pass the baton on to a new female detective.” Hargitay’s on-screen partner, Christopher Meloni, has not yet signed a contract to return next season.

Law & Order: SVU star Mariska Hargitay has a new baby girl. The actress and her husband, Peter Hermann, reportedly adopted a daughter earlier this month, according to People.com. The newborn also has a bodyguard in her new 4 1/2-year-old brother, August. “He is over the moon,” Hargitay told People. “He calls her his baby because he says the whole thing was his idea. He always talks about how he’s going to protect her. He’s going to be a great big brother.”
“Bones” has been nominated for a People’s Choice Award in the category of Favorite TV Crime Drama, where it will battle “Criminal Minds,” “Law & Order: Special Victims Unit,” “Lie To Me” and “NCIS.” Bones star Emily Deschanel was also nominated in the category of Best TV Crime Fighter. She will face off against Mariska Hargitay (“Law & Order: Special Victims Unit”), Mark Harmon (“NCIS”), Simon Baker (“The Mentalist”) and Tim Roth (“Lie to Me”). The awards ceremony will air live on Wednesday, January 5, at 9 p.m. (8 p.m. central) on CBS.
