Neil Blomkamp’s ‘Chappie’ Gets A Release Date

Chappie Poster Close up

March 6th is the day to mark on your busy calendar for the release of Neil Blomkamp’s ‘Chappie’. Neil Blomkamp, who has been recognized by Forbes Magazine as one of Africa’s most powerful celebrities, doesn’t have many films under his belt, but District 9 and Elysium’s success was enough to prove Blomkamp’s Chappie was the right choice for MRC’s next Sci fi project.

Chappie was co-written by Blomkamp alongside District 9 and Elysiums’s writer Terri Tatchell. The film is an expansion of his short film ‘Tetra Val’ (see video below) with a interesting plot that follows a robot named Chappie who is kidnapped by two South African gangsters and brought up into a strange and dysfunctional world. Fans are rooting on Blomkamp to extend his winning streak with this film and are also looking forward to the return of Sharito Copley as the voice of Chappie. The cast will also include Hugh Jackman, Dev Patel, Sigourney Weaver, Jose Pablo Cantillo, and South African rappers Ninja and Yolandi Visser of Die Antwoord as Chappie’s kidnappers.

Be sure to check out ‘Tetra Val’ to see the inspiration behind the movie.

Future Chappie star, Sharlto Copley plays a quirky and flawed King Stefan in Disney’s Maleficent film and he is excited about this role, but couldn’t hold back his desire to tease his latest collaboration with director Neill Blomkamp. The District 9 and Elysium helmer Neill Blomkamp is ready to release his next project peculiar sounding new sci-fi film Chappie. The film is set to release March of 2015 and Copley will be playing the lead role as a kid named Chappie, who is kidnapped and raised by criminals. The twist is that Chappie is a robot with artificial intelligence. Copley will be the main voice for Chappie and he says it will be “massively unique.”

In the video, he says like District 9, it is a very original and different approach to combining elements and its something you have never seen like it. Also, he says playing the heavy villains in past projects; it was fun to play a child-like robot. As well as, he comments on how real the robots movements are with him, and he can tell his body movements. He concludes that the animation is disturbingly him. As well as, how it was a very unique experience, he loved it and found it so interesting and creative.
