Aretha Franklin was more than an iconic singer – she was also a dedicated civil rights and women’s rights activist whose most well-known songs also became synonymous with these movements. In fact, Aretha’s father, renowned Detroit minister CL Franklin, was a significant civil rights force, and Rev. Martin Luther King Jr. was a friend of the Franklin family. Aretha’s friendship with Dr. King is explored in the film Respect, and the blue, silver and white dress (pictured) she wears on-screen when she is recognized by Dr. King for her civil rights work – and during the unforgettable performance of “Natural Woman” – is now available from VIP Fan Auctions. The ensemble includes the shoes and earrings worn by Jennifer Hudson in the film and is truly a unique piece of wardrobe.
