Hecules Movie

Hercules, starring Dwayne Johnson, was released this past weekend and it takes a different look at the legendary Hercules offering a mix of action, laughter, and tragedy. Hercules has to overcome his haunted past in order to end a civil war in Thrace. He can’t do it without his supporting cast of five companions, Amphiaraus (Ian McShane), Autolycus (Rufus Sewell), Tydeus (Aksel Hennie), Atalanta (Ingrid Bolso Berdal), and Iolaus (Reece Ritchie) who stand by his side for better or worse.

Brett Ratner, the director of the film, walks the line between the legend and the man. It takes a unique look into the struggle to see if a single person could do all that Hercules has supposedly done. The comic created by Steve Moore adapted the story for the film and while it goes into new territory, the core of the story matches the epic comic – but the film is bigger and more intense. Thrace is a grand world, which set up the vision to create big set pieces to keep your eyes engaged, everything from the statues to the weaponry to the fight scenes feel gigantic. Overall, the film was entertaining and a boisterous action flick, not to mention an engaging performance by Dwayne Johnson.
