When NBC, which is airing the Emmy Awards on Aug. 29, rolled out the first in a series of Mad Men-themed episodes, the networks competing against the AMC hit cried foul. The first ad, featuring Emmy host Jimmy Kimmel portraying Mad Men’s Don Draper along with actual Mad Men actress Christina Hendricks as her character, Joan Harris, was broadcast last week. The campaign’s remaining spots have since been placed on hold, according to The Hollywood Reporter – reportedly due to complaints from Emmy competitors. Perhaps if the other networks put more effort into creating iconic, quality shows, they’d be less intimidated by entertaining spoofs.
